May 21 Meeting of the Modern Bee

Next Wednesday, May 21, the Modern Bee will be meeting from 1-4 at the Talahi Island Community Center (532 Quarterman Dr.)  This month no machines are necessary.  We’ll be starting our new quilt challenge — circles.  The objective will be to start planning your quilt. Emily will be presenting a “show” of circles.  Bring any circle ideas you have — quilts, photos, ideas. And bring paper and pencil to start planning. we’re planning on a circle extravaganza. See you Wednesday.  This is a good time for newcomers since were starting a new project.

Netflix Documentary “The Quilters”

This Friday, May 16th, Netflix is releasing a documentary on “The Quilters”. These quilters are incarcerated men in a Missouri maximum security prison who make quilts for foster care children.

I am very much intrigued to find out how they design their quilts. Do they use patterns from magazine, the internet or books? Do they design their own blocks and quilt tops? How did they learn and from whom? And how much creativity did they discover in themselves?

If interested, turn to Netflix on Friday 🙂
