February Handwork Bee

The Handwork Bee will meet Tuesday February 25 10 – 3 at the Center Parc Credit Union community room 5698-A Ogeechee Rd Savannah.

This month we will be working on Crazy Quilt projects.  If you would like to make the tin cover Cat Allard showed us last month she will have patterns for $3 and kits which include the pattern for $15.  Her supply list at the link.  A machine is necessary to piece the background.  Please plan on sharing machines since this is a small item.  My machine will be available to anyone who wants to use it.  Tins will be available for $1 if you don’t want to use an Altoids tin.

Savannah Quilt Guild – Members

Like always you may work on any hand project.

Project Linus Fundraiser – Scrappy Sewing with Patty

Attention, quilters! I’m excited to share this year’s new Project Linus fundraiser: Scrappy Sewing with Patty!

Sign-ups start today at www.projectlinus.org

Be sure to enter Ellie Grix, Coordinator and Project Linus of Savannah, GA / Hilton Head, SC as your chapter!

Registration costs $20, and the first quilt pattern will be released on March 8. You will receive a new pattern every other week for a total of seven beginner-friendly scrappy quilts! This is a great opportunity to use up your stash of fabrics AND support your local Project Linus chapter. You can join the Facebook group “Scrappy Sewing with Patty” to see what other quilters are making!

I’m so excited to get started! I love “stashbuster” patterns and I can’t wait to see what beautiful creations are in store.

Sign up today, and remember to select Savannah and Hilton Head so that your donation benefits this chapter.

APRIL Workshop!!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen!

In April YOU have to opportunity to learn from our very own fabric artist, Jennifer Farago.  I have been campaigning for years to get her to do a workshop.

Its all about curves and learning how to use them.  All for the modest price of $20.  Check in with Cheryl at the check-in table.  Cheryl will have some samples of things you will be able to do after learning the technique.  Don’t miss this opportunity!

If you have questions, call or email Terry Duncan, 210-863-1126  terryduncan53@gmail.com

Design your own quilt with curves made simple!

Using freezer paper, you will create your own design and templates that are reuseable.  You can create a one-of-a-kind quilt or repeat the design to create bocks for a larger quilt.

With a very simple supply list of items that you probably already own, you will learn the skills that can be taken in many directions.

Supplies:

Freezer paper, at least 24” long by width of roll.

Pencil/Eraser

Sharpie

Paper scissors

Fabric scissors

5 to 10 fabrics, up to fat quarter size each.  Use those scraps!

Iron & ironing surface (we can share)

Thread to match fabric and tread to contrast fabric

Sewing machine with standard presser foot.

Upcoming Modern Bee

Just a note to remind everyone that the Modern Bee will be meeting this coming Wednesday, February 19 from 1-4 at the Talahi Community Center (532 Quarterman Road).

We’ll be continuing our work on minimalist modern quilts. If you missed last month’s meeting, no problem. We’ll bring you up to date. Bring your sewing machine and coordinated fabric.

At this month’s meeting we’ll be introducing a new quilting challenge and give you a bit of fabric to get started.

Don’t forget to bring things for the show and tell — minimalist quilts in progress, things finished from last year, or anything else you’d like to share. See you Wednesday.
