Workshop description – Making A Quilty Vest (2 ½ -3 hours)

If you can make a whole quilt, you can make this easy quilted vest. The guild program introduced design ideas, and this workshop will help attendees execute their vision. As a bonus, the quilted unisex pattern we’ll use for class will be available to try on for sizing accuracy in advance of the workshop.

This workshop will:

  • Review the steps to sew a quilted vest
  • Recommend seam and edge finishes for the vest
  • Begin the vest in class and take away understandable next steps

Attendees will create or obtain the fabric for the vest & binding. This can include pieces of your own design, vintage quilts, commercially quilted fabric, etc. As this vest can be reversible, consider both the right side and the inside fabrics.

Homework for the workshop:

  1. Try on the designated unisex pattern and choose your size (sizes XS to XL are available); these will be at the guild meetings leading up to the workshop.
  2. Based on size selected, create or source ‘quilted pieces’ for the vest
  3. Find/create bias binding for the edges and armholes

APRIL Workshop!!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen!

In April YOU have to opportunity to learn from our very own fabric artist, Jennifer Farago.  I have been campaigning for years to get her to do a workshop.

Its all about curves and learning how to use them.  All for the modest price of $20.  Check in with Cheryl at the check-in table.  Cheryl will have some samples of things you will be able to do after learning the technique.  Don’t miss this opportunity!

Design your own quilt with curves made simple!

Using freezer paper, you will create your own design and templates that are reuseable.  You can create a one-of-a-kind quilt or repeat the design to create bocks for a larger quilt.

With a very simple supply list of items that you probably already own, you will learn the skills that can be taken in many directions.

Freezer paper, at least 24” long by width of roll.

Paper scissors

Fabric scissors

5 to 10 fabrics, up to fat quarter size each.  Use those scraps!
