(Thank you to Gail Scarbrough for submitting this information. Sandra will be missed by our Guild! There are no arrangements for a memorial service as of yet.)
Sandra Lee (Butler Drummond) Ailio passed away Feb. 20, 2022 in her Savannah home at the far-too-young age of 77. Her beloved husband Jukka and daughter Debbie were at her side.
Born in Palo Alto, CA in 1944, Sandra excelled in school and in every job she ever had. At 18 she opened a business of secretarial services while tending to her infant daughter.
She went on to carve herself a marvelous career in Human Resources. She was smart, a quick learner, hard worker and always ready to help. She mentored many along her long career.
In the 1980’s and 1990’s she worked in Silicon Valley with some of the founding fathers as the world rapidly transitioned into the digital age. She was proud when daughter Debbie became an attorney and mother and daughter worked side–by–side for several years as HR managers in leading Silicon Valley tech companies. Sandra enjoyed this exciting fast-paced time until her retirement from Microsystems (now Oracle).
Upon retirement she and Jukka enjoyed travel and boating. When they moved to Savannah, Sandra became an avid quilter, member of The Savannah Quilt Guild and accumulated a truly impressive “stash” of beautiful fabric. She was always ready to pitch in. She will be missed by her family and many friends for her good humor, thoughtfulness and kindness.
She is survived by her husband, Jukka Ailio, daughter Debbie Snow and granddaughter Nicole Ebert.

Subject: Person who knows about antique quilts
I would like to connect with a quilt expert in the Savannah area. I have access to a quilt from 1800s (?) and cannot find the pattern name. The owner doesn’t want to sell. He showed it to me and my interest is peaked since I have begun quilting. I will be in Savannah the weekend of the 19th and will have access to the quilt then.
Could you direct me to someone who would be interested in seeing the quilt?
Sincerely,
Carol Sheftall
