Project Linus Collaborative Quilts

Hello, Guild Members!

Thank you all for your support of Project Linus. Our recent Sew Day was a fantastic success (pictures below), and I have some fun projects to share with the Guild:

  1. Quilters can participate in a collaborative project and make a squares for a quilt top. The pattern for the blanket can be found here: https://suzyquilts.com/free-squared-quilt-pattern/ and dimensions for the individual block is attached below. It’s a simple 6″ square with a 3 1/2″ border on each side. Use a fun print for the center and a corresponding solid (or solid-ish) for the border!
  2. Take home Quilt Kits are now available! Fabric and patterns are provided and are prepared by guild member Paula. I’ll bring the kits to the guild meeting on Saturday. I’ll just need to get your name and contact information if you take one home. You can bring the completed tops to the guild meeting in August! If you’d like to quilt the top yourself that would be wonderful, or consider making a small donation to Project Linus to help offset the costs of quilting the tops professionally ($5 suggested).

Thank you all for sharing your talents with the community. You can reach me with questions at elliegrix@gmail.com

Sincerely,

Ellie Grix

NICU Hearts for Memorial

Guild Members: if you have any scrap batting or leftover blocks from a project, consider making a few NICU Hearts for Memorial Health! Project Linus and Memorial Heath collaborate with “Blanketeers” to provide little hearts for the babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

The hearts are given to parents who have a child in the NICU. The parent wears the heart in their clothes, and when they leave the hospital, the hearts are placed in the baby’s isolette. The scent of the parent on the heart helps keep the baby calm when mama is away.

The hearts can be quilted or crocheted (see pictures below), about 4″ – 6″ wide, and should be made of clean, non-abrasive materials, free of animal fibers or allergens. (Here’s a good crochet pattern: https://www.crochetleaf.com/basic-crochet-heart.html) Put your completed hearts in a clean plastic bag, and you can bring them to me at the monthly guild meetings! Alternately, feel free to drop them off as you would a blanket donation at one of our businesses (Joann’s, Sew Much More, Savannah Sews, Blue Heron Stitchery).

Thanks for your generosity!
