Project Linus: Mystery Quilt Challenge

Hi Guild Members!

Today is the start of a really fun Project Linus event: the Mystery Quilt Challenge! For $20, you receive weekly step-by-step instructions and videos to create a single themed block, similar to the Quilt Guild “block of the month.” At the end of eight weeks is the “Big Reveal” with instructions to complete a youth-sized quilt!

You can sign up for the Mystery Quilt Challenge at https://www.projectlinus.org/  Make sure to specify Savannah / Hilton Head as the Chapter Name, and Ellie Grix as the Coordinator so that your donation benefits this local chapter.

The first clue is revealed on September 23! This is a fun project for quilters of all skill levels, and a great fundraiser for Project Linus.

Important Project Linus Information

Hello again, members! I forgot to mention a policy regarding quilting donated tops:

Project Linus can only complete quilt tops when the materials have been provided by our chapter funds (i.e. the quilt kits and projects made on Sew Days). We cannot accept any other donated quilt tops due to limited funding and supplies.

Thank you all for your understanding! E-mail me if you have any questions regarding Project Linus’ policies on donations.

Project Linus Quilting Day, September 30

Hello, guild members! First of all, thank you all so much for your continued support of Project Linus. This chapter is incredibly fortunate to have so many talented and generous quilters in our community!

I’m excited to announce our next event: a “Quilting Day,” held Saturday, September 30. RSVP and details here: https://forms.gle/j2gmXQwRSuKhoUCb9

Rather than sewing quilt tops, we’ll be assembling the Quilt Kits into finished quilts. Project Linus will provide the batting and 108″ wide backing fabric. We need volunteers to cut batting, prepare backing fabric, assemble binding strips, and most importantly, quilt the “sandwiches” together. Fancy designs are not necessary; simple “stich in the ditch” or wavy lines are perfect!

Click the link above to RSVP (you can edit your response later).

And finally, if you took home a Quilt Kit at the August meeting, please have it ready by the September 9 meeting!

If you have any questions, e-mail me at elliegrix@gmail.com

Thank you!

Ellie

Quilting Volunteers Needed for Project Linus

Thank you all for your continued support of Project Linus! I’m looking forward to seeing the finished blocks and quilt tops for those of you who took one home at the July meeting!

Project Linus is in need of volunteers to help with finishing these quilt tops. We can provide supplies such as batting and backing fabric, but we need volunteers to put them together. They can be completed on a traditional sewing machine, or a professional long-arm.

If anyone is interested in helping out, send me an e-mail: elliegrix@gmail.com

And if you know of any professional long-arm quilters, I’d love to get in touch with them too! Woven Key Quilts has generously volunteered to complete some tops for Project Linus, but we have many more quilt tops than she can handle. Project Linus can reimburse professional quilters for supplies, but not for the labor. Send some contact information my way!

Thanks again for your support!

Project Linus Collaborative Quilts

Hello, Guild Members!

Thank you all for your support of Project Linus. Our recent Sew Day was a fantastic success (pictures below), and I have some fun projects to share with the Guild:

  1. Quilters can participate in a collaborative project and make a squares for a quilt top. The pattern for the blanket can be found here: https://suzyquilts.com/free-squared-quilt-pattern/ and dimensions for the individual block is attached below. It’s a simple 6″ square with a 3 1/2″ border on each side. Use a fun print for the center and a corresponding solid (or solid-ish) for the border!
  2. Take home Quilt Kits are now available! Fabric and patterns are provided and are prepared by guild member Paula. I’ll bring the kits to the guild meeting on Saturday. I’ll just need to get your name and contact information if you take one home. You can bring the completed tops to the guild meeting in August! If you’d like to quilt the top yourself that would be wonderful, or consider making a small donation to Project Linus to help offset the costs of quilting the tops professionally ($5 suggested).

Thank you all for sharing your talents with the community. You can reach me with questions at elliegrix@gmail.com

Sincerely,

Ellie Grix

NICU Hearts for Memorial

Guild Members: if you have any scrap batting or leftover blocks from a project, consider making a few NICU Hearts for Memorial Health! Project Linus and Memorial Heath collaborate with “Blanketeers” to provide little hearts for the babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

The hearts are given to parents who have a child in the NICU. The parent wears the heart in their clothes, and when they leave the hospital, the hearts are placed in the baby’s isolette. The scent of the parent on the heart helps keep the baby calm when mama is away.

The hearts can be quilted or crocheted (see pictures below), about 4″ – 6″ wide, and should be made of clean, non-abrasive materials, free of animal fibers or allergens. (Here’s a good crochet pattern: https://www.crochetleaf.com/basic-crochet-heart.html) Put your completed hearts in a clean plastic bag, and you can bring them to me at the monthly guild meetings! Alternately, feel free to drop them off as you would a blanket donation at one of our businesses (Joann’s, Sew Much More, Savannah Sews, Blue Heron Stitchery).

Thanks for your generosity!
