Project Linus Take-Home Kits

Hello Guild Members!

Thanks to our generous Blanketeers, I have dozens of pre-cut Quilt Kits for our next Sew Day! More than we could manage in a single event, as a matter of fact!

I’m going to bring some Quilt Kits to the March meeting. If you’d like to take home a project, feel free to grab one!

I would like to have all kits returned by the April 10 meeting, or at least by the end of April. My mother is a long-armer who volunteers to complete the quilt tops, and she is planning a trip to Savannah this spring.

If you complete a Quilt Kit, consider making a small donation of $5 – $10 to Project Linus to help offset the costs of finishing the quilts (batting, thread, backing fabric).

Thank you all for your support!

P.S. Now that our beloved Sew Much More is closing, I’ve lost another drop-off site for Project Linus. If anyone knows of a local business that would like to be a collaborator, let me know!

I’m not able to partner with large businesses like Michael’s or Hobby Lobby unless they collaborate with Project Linus as a corporation. Chapters can partner with small businesses and organizations, even if they’re not necessarily craft-oriented, as long as they are open to the public, can store bags of blankets on-site, and have regular hours. Ideally they should have accessible parking as well.

Let me know if you have any leads!

Layer Cake class spot / no Linus blankets Saturday

Hello Guild Friends,

This is Ellie from Project Linus. I won’t be able to attend Saturday’s meeting because I have to attend a funeral. Please hold on to any Project Linus blanket donations you might have brought to the meeting. You can also drop off any donations at Unwind Yarn and Gifts or Sew Much More.

I also won’t be able to attend Saturday’s Layer Cake workshop, unfortunately. Would anyone like to “purchase” my spot from me?

Let me know at elliegrix@gmail.com or 573-631-2571

Thank you all!

Gift for Children’s Hospital Nurses

Hello, Guild Members!

I’ve received a request from the Child Life Manager at Memorial Health Children’s Hospital. She’s my contact for Project Linus deliveries to the hospital, and she would like help to create gifts for her staff:

Hi,
I wanted to ask if you know if someone would be willing to make 10 weighted eye masks to share with my child’s life team? The team has been working short-staffed, help so many children who are very ill, and families who have lost a child. I think including a homemade item for our March staff meeting would be great. I have the supplies for the aromatherapy piece and would be happy to contribute to fabric if someone has the capability to create them? Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you for all you do, Kristen
If you’d like to make these heart-shaped weighted eye masks, send me an email and I’ll pass you along to the rep at Memorial.

Thanks!

Ellie

Project Linus “Cutting party” Thursday at Lake Mayer

If you’d like to prep some quilt kits for the next Project Linus Sew Day, come to Lake Mayer’s community center this Thursday, January 29 from 12:30 – 3:30.

Fabric, patterns, and bags are provided, as well as two cutting mats. Consider bringing your own cutting mats and rulers if you want to use your own equipment.

If you want to de-clutter your fabric stash, feel free to bring some of your fabric too!

(reminder as you cut patterns, to also provide fabric for quilt backing and 2 1/2″ binding)

Thank you all for your support, and to Judy King for her help in organizing the event!

Help needed: Quilt kits for Project Linus

Hello, guild members!

This is Ellie, the coordinator for Project Linus of Savannah. I recently received a wonderful donation of fabric which I would like to cut into quilt kits for an upcoming Sew Day. I need a volunteer or two who can assemble quilt kits consisting of cut fabric blocks, 2 1/2″ binding strips, and backing fabric.

All fabric and quilt patterns are provided. I use patterns designed by Villa Rosa, which are easy to prepare and beginner friendly. I will also provide baggies for the quilt kits.

I’m not in a hurry, either. I haven’t scheduled the next Sew Day, but it will likely be hosted by the Quilt Guild and be held sometime this summer. Stay tuned!

If you’d like to help out, email me at elliegrix@gmail.com, or you can call/text 573-631-2571.

Thank you all for your support!

Ellie

Yarn for Project Linus

Hello, crafters!

I have an abundance of yarn that was donated to Project Linus, more than I can store! I’m going to bring a bin of it to the guild meeting tomorrow. Take all you can use, keeping in mind it should be for Project Linus donations. Maybe you can make your own crocheted border blanket!
