Pillowcase project July 2025

Where has June gone?! It was fun but went by way too quickly. I hope you were able to grab a bit of fun sewing time. We received a nice number of pillowcases at the guild meeting. Thank you. Frances and I will be working on pillowcases at Lake Mayer on Thursday July 3rd and Thursday the 31st from 12:30- 3:30 (note the change to Thursdays and later time). If you need help or want to learn, we will be available. There is also sewing/ quilting time scheduled for July 10th and the 17th from 10 til 1. As always we appreciate your commitment and hard work to brighten the days of sick children.  Debbie Whiteway 804-513-9658. wahoodeb@gmail.com

June Program – Patchwork Quilting

Hi, Quilters,

A few quilters asked that I record Emily’s program on Patchwork quilting.  There are two videos due to my poor videoing skills!  They are posted to the Picture Gallery on the website.  I’ve included the links in this post also.  Hopefully, everyone that missed the meeting can view it.

Here is a link to view it:

Project Linus Quilt Kits: FAQs

Hello, Guild members!

Thank you to everyone who attended the Quilting Day on June 14! We had so much fun putting these kits together, with eight completed and many more distributed as “homework” projects.

I’ve gotten some similar questions from several quilters, so let me address a few Frequently Asked Questions:

  • “Can I quilt the top myself?”
    • Absolutely you can! That would be a wonderful help! I have a volunteer (my mom!) who is going to finish the tops on her long-arm machine, but if you want to turn in a completed quilt go right ahead!
    • Project Linus cannot provide quilt batting nor fabric for backing and binding if you want to finish the quilt yourself. I used Linus funds to purchase a lot of materials  when Joann’s went out of business, but those were all distributed to my long-arm volunteers.
    • If you want to finish the quilt yourself you do not have to return your quilt by July 12. That is the deadline for quilt tops, but you can take all the time you need if you want to finish it yourself.
  • “Can I bring you some quilt tops from my stash?”
    • I can only commit to finishing the quilt kits provided by Project Linus on Sew Days. I don’t have the resources to finish any outside quilt tops. Sorry!

And as a reminder to everyone who took home a quilt kit:

All quilt tops must be returned by the July 12 Quilt Guild meeting.

My mother is visiting from Missouri and she will be taking the tops home with her to finish on her long-arm.

And finally, just a general reminder about Project Linus blanket donations:

  • All blanket donations must be new and allergen-free (no wools, no pet dander, no perfumes or strong scents, smoke-free home)
  • Blankets must be a minimum of 36″ x 36″

Thank you all for your continued support of Project Linus!
