Upcoming April 16 Modern Bee

Just a note to remind everyone interested in modern quilting that the modern bee will be meeting this Wednesday afternoon from 1-4 at the Talahi Island Community Center (532 Quarterman Dr.).  This week we’ll be working on our Naedelstern fabric challenge quilts. If you weren’t around to get in on the challenge, don’t worry. we’ll have some fabrics for you to choose and get started. Or if you want to get started on another modern quilt, that’s fine too. Bring along your machine and some fabric and we’ll show you some of the things we’ve done in the past to get you started.

See you Wednesday.

Update on Proposed Bylaws Amendment Vote

Dear Savannah Quilt Guild Members,

After reviewing Robert’s Rules of Order and discussing member feedback, the Board has determined that the proposed amendment to our membership bylaws—originally scheduled for a vote at the April 12th meeting—did not follow the correct procedural process and will therefore be removed from the agenda.

The original proposal to establish a minimum membership age of 16 was brought directly to the Board. In an effort to ensure members had the opportunity to voice their opinions, I moved the process forward for a vote. However, it was not properly introduced to the membership as a formal motion, seconded, and then opened for discussion and debate as outlined in Robert’s Rules.

This was an oversight on my part, and I appreciate those who brought it to our attention. After reviewing the process together, the Board has agreed that the vote should be removed from consideration at this time.

Moving forward, if a member wishes to bring this issue—or any bylaw amendment—to the Guild, it must be presented as a formal motion at a meeting, seconded, and then opened for discussion before it is brought to a vote.

Additionally, it has come to my attention that my email address was listed incorrectly in the membership directory. If you attempted to reach me and did not receive a response, I likely did not see your message. Please feel free to reach out to me directly at mgsengstack@msn.com with any questions or comments.

Thank you for your understanding, your commitment to proper process, and your continued support of the Guild.

Binding Us Together,
Michael Sengstack

Goodbye too soon!

When I attended the meeting in March, I had no idea I would be moving from Savannah, but life throws us curves (I wanted to take that workshop).  Moving trucks have vacated the house and we are gone, so quickly that I won’t even be there to see you at the April meeting.

While I was a short-term member, I wanted to thank all of you for your tremendous warmth, knowledge and kindness.  I learned so much and had so much fun.  We were in Savannah almost five years, I so wish I had found you sooner.

Best of everything going forward, I will miss all of you and your generosity.
