Pillowcase project at Lake Mayer

Frances and Debbie will be at Lake Mayer to work on pillowcases this Friday, January 19th, and next Friday, January 26th from 10-12. We will match fabrics for kits, and you can bring your machine if you would like to sew pillowcases.

Lake Mayer is at 1850 E Montgomery Cross Rd. in Savannah. When you come into the park through the front gates, go to the community center which is past the tennis courts in the second small building on the right. The playground is behind it. We will see you at 10. Happy sewing! Debbie and Frances

Modern Bee Reminder

Just a reminder that the modern bee will be meeting this Wednesday afternoon. Here’s a copy of the original post:

The Modern Bee will be meeting again on the third Wednesday afternoon of the month. Our next meeting will be 1-4 pm, Wednesday, January 17 at the Talahi Island Community Center (532 Quarterman Dr.). Everyone interested in modern quilting is welcome.

We’ll be having a workshop exploring a simple technique used in designing modern quilts. It involves starting with stitched paper models (called maquettes). This technique is based on the work of David Owen Hastings (check out his website).

The following supplies are needed for the workshop:

  • A sewing machine (with a bright thread for the paper model and thread to match your fabric);
  • A ruler, a rotary cutter, a scissors for cutting paper;
  • A brown paper bag, and a few sheets of white paper and a little construction paper if you happen to have some handy.
  • Fabric of your choice to make a small quilt based upon your paper model.

Carol has lot of brown paper that she’s bringing. Also there was a question about the fabric to bring. Pick something that would be your background and maybe three other matching fabrics. You won’t need a lot. Hope to see you Wednesday and if you’re booked up that day think aobut coming next month on the third Wednesday — Feb. 21.
