Good morning ladies!

Our regularly scheduled meeting will not be happening tomorrow…… at least, not in person.  The program we had planned for you was Virtual Sewing Studios.  Several of our members responded to my call for photos of their sewing rooms.   Thanks to the miracle of modern technology you are still going to be able to enjoy the slideshow of these beautiful studios.  Better yet, you can pause the show any time you wish, to take a closer look.

The presentation will be available (tomorrow morning) and you can find it under the Members tab on the website–Savannah Quilt Guild April Program.

If you are like me you have been missing Show and Tell.  Let’s try to remedy that. Put on your best pajamas (aka COVID19 apparel) and take a picture of you and your latest project(s). Send the pics to me at theresasapp@aol.com and I will put them together in the Picture Gallery for everyone to enjoy.  I will send everyone an email when the folder is ready to share.  Let’s fill it with beautiful quilts, small projects and, yes, even face mask photos!!!! We have two months of Show and Tell to catch up on!

Wake Forest Homemade Mask Study

On YouTube I found a great video by Fabric Patch explaining in great detail

how to make a face mask shaped like a dust mask.  The PDF pattern they used was

adapted slightly from craftpassion.com.  I made two today and like the fit much

better than the rectangular pleated mask.  They use a small piece of aluminum from a

disposable food pan and insert it between the fabric layers to form a shape that bends around

your nose.  They recommend 5″ long elastic to ft over your ears but it was too short for my head so I made mine 7″ long.

I work at the Midwife Group on Chatham Parkway in Savannah, a freestanding birt center. We are having trouble getting face masks for ourselves and our patients. Any amount of cloth masks to distribute to our patients and partners would be welcome. I plan to sew some myself the next day off I get.

It warms your heart to see how appreciative nurses are to get the masks.  Our daughter, Shelley, lives in Grand Junction, CO and is an RN with 24 nurses that report to her.  They are taking care of Covid-19 patients at the patient’s home and had little supplies.  These masks help them save the few n95 masks for the identified virus patients and use the fabric masks for other visits, such as wound care.  They can also use the fabric masks over the n95 masks to extend the life of the mask.

A special thanks go to Judy King, Gloria Bailey and Judy Saucerman for being part of this effort and sewing these masks.  You are sewing warriors!
